We had an old friend of Nicholas Dawkes Photography in the studio again at the end of 2011, Video DJ superstar Beatamaxx. Beatamaxx came in for a shoot back in 2010 for some press and promo shots, and we had the pleasure of working with him again to freshen up his portfolio…

We had pro sax player Justin Swadling in the studio this week. Ironically, Justin used to work for my family business, Dawkes Music, but is now a freelance musician and teaches privately as well as playing a busy schedule of gigs and events. We wanted to make the shoot as creative as possible in order to not have a cliche musician shoot, experimenting with light and shadows and giving Justin a wide spectrum of shots to use for promoting himself. A few months after I shot Peter Dickson (voiceover man for X factor and E4) I had his client (Peter is a man of many talents and runs his own talent agency…) Lloyd Daniels in for a calendar shoot. Lloyd was in the final for X factor in 2009 and has since signed with a new agency, been touring the UK and has an album coming out in the Spring. Lloyd was great fun to work with and had a strong idea of what he wanted so he moved well in front of the camera. He knew his angles and we had great fun experimenting with his wardrobe! Of course, I couldn’t let him last the whole afternoon without doing my terrible Welsh accent or giving him an example of my own X factor voice! Tonight, we had the privilege of having The Blanks in the studio for a quick photo shoot. They burst into the studio with bundles of energy and quick witted humor and a bit of accapella too!

During the summer, talented singer Ben Hague won the competition ‘Break Into’ run by careers company Monster.com, His management Squidgy Pig got in touch for a promotional photo session in our studio. Ben has an exceptional voice, you can see his original audition video below: Ben was picked from thousands as the Winner of the ‘Break into’ competition and is now performing ant touring throughout the UK.
Recently we did a location based photo shoot with London-based contemporary composer Charlotte Bray. The shoot was for her new website which will be launching before the New Year. Charlotte was great to work with and really relaxed despite getting a bit cold up on the roof! Shots look great though, can’t wait for the new website. Some shots from a shoot last year with fantastic singer-songwriter Nikki Rogers for her new album Once In A While. We shot out on Location in Kennington, South London and also in the freezing cold and snow in West London, Nicki is a true professional, and great to work with so we still managed to capture some stunning shots.
